NEPSE saw marginal growth last week

The share market saw a marginal growth last week with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index up by 4.97 points on the last day of trading on Thursday compared to the opening on Sunday. The index rose to 683.71 points on Thursday from 678.74 points. Amongst five days of trading, the index saw a decline only on Monday to 676.41 points.
Hydropower, trading and banking sector contributed to upward move of the index last week. Hydropower group saw its index going up by 22.31 points followed by trading which rose by 8.57 points. The commercial banks index went up by 7.57 points.
Groups related to development banks, insurance and finance companies saw their indices diving by 11.99 points, 2.16 points and 1.82 points respectively.
As many as 82 companies registered their presence in the secondary market last week with a total of 516,700 shares worth Rs. 239.7 million being traded in 4,131 transactions. The number of transactions was higher the preceding week when 922,900 shares worth Rs. 953.9 million was traded in 3275 transactions.
'A' class companies occupied 46.99 percent the trading pie with Rs. 108.5 million worth of shares traded over the week. The sensitive index that measures the transactions of 'A' class companies went up by 1.32 points to settle at 183.64 points.
As many as 17.5 million right shares of four companies were listed in the NEPSE last week. The right shares of
Nepal Investment Bank (8,010,038 units), Siddhartha Development Bank (5,374,275 units), Infrastructure Develop- ment Bank (2,400,000) and Pokhara Finance (1,787,280 units) were listed. Nepal Credit and Commerce Bank and National Hydropower Limited topped in terms of turnover amount and number of shares traded respectively. But, Nepal Express Finance topped in terms of number of transactions.
