Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) officials Tuesday said Chinese investors were interested to invest in Nepal and that the country could attract huge investments from China if the government improved law and order situation and addressed the power crisis. FNCCI officials, who returned after attending the 10th meeting of Nepal China Non-Governmental Forum in Chengdu, stated that the Chinese investors were mainly interested to put their money on hydropower projects, infrastructure development and modern herbal industries among others.
“A team of leading hydropower developer in Chengdu is visiting Nepal in the next three months. If we could address security, displacement and power related problems, the company will be happy to invest in Nepal,” said Gyanendra Pradhan, a member of the FNCCI team.
Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar, vice president of FNCCI, stated that China´s exim bank had presently allocated $10 billion to invest abroad and that the bank plans to invest $1 billion in smaller economies as a part of Chinese effort to avert adverse impact of global recession. "We can tap that resource by taking smaller steps. The government must be serious towards addressing our internal problems,” he added.
He further informed that China had committed to start a direct flight between Chengdu and Kathmandu regularly. During the visit, FNCCI team had interacted with more than 150 prominent Chinese entrepreneurs.
