Nepse ups marginally at year-end

The capital market saw marginal growth this week — from December 27 to 31 — gaining 2.84 points. Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index reached 548.11 points.
The majority of the sectors, except finance companies, gained between 1.05 points to 11.62 points this week.
Finance companies lost 5.88 points while hydropower, commercial banks, development banks, and insurance gained 11.62 points, 4.26 points, 2.45 points and 1.05 points respectively.
The Nepse sensitive index, which measures the performance of class ‘A’ companies, went up to 135.60 points gaining 0.58 points within four trading days. A continuous growth was seen in Nepse this week.
Shares equal to Rs 172.76 million were traded on the Nepse floor between December 27 and 31. A sharp fall in transaction amount, shares’ number and transaction was recorded at the end of year 2009. Transaction amount for the week was 35.03 per cent less than previous week’s Rs 265.93 million. The number of shares traded decreased by 30.25 per cent while the number of transaction dropped by 25.87 per cent (from 6,264 to 4,643).
Standard Chartered Bank topped in transaction amount with Rs 20.47 million whereas Vibhor Bank topped with 35,000 shares and 629 transactions. The five best players in term of amount were Standard Chartered (Rs 20.47 million), Vibhor Bank (Rs 13.58 million), Global Bank (Rs 12.12 million), Nabil Bank ((Rs 10.69 million) and Sanima Development Bank (Rs 8.86 million).
Around 48,33,770 units of bonus share of Nabil Bank were registered with Nepse this week. There was no transaction of debentures this week.
