NEPSE loses 27.79 points

The capital market nosedived last week with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index plunging by 27.79 points in the final day of trading against the first day.

The Index came down from 562.11 points on Sunday to 534.32 points on Thursday. All trading groups saw a decline in their respective indices. The commercial banks' group and development banks' group were the biggest losers. The Hotel and manufacturing groups were not traded through out the week.

The commercial banks' group witnessed a decline of 36.67 points in its index to 502.19 points followed by development banks' group which its index dropped by 34.46 points to settle at 534.32 points.

Likewise, the finance group lost 30.45 points to settle at 564.63 points and insurance group's index came down by 15.76 points to 578.78. The trading, hydropower and others groups also lost their points by 10.02 points, 9.58 points and 7.04 points, respectively. Their final index stands at 256.07, 804.59 and 595.69 points, respectively.

The stocks of 91 companies were traded last week. A total of 562,000 shares worth Rs. 276.84 million through 4,910 transactions last week. It is an increase of three percent in terms of turnover against the record of the previous week. A total of 777,800 shares worth Rs.268.79 million had been traded through 4,521 transactions.

The sensitive index that measures the transactions of A class companies also came down by 9.16 points to 131.53 points. Fewa Finance topped in terms of turnover amount and number of shares traded whereas Prime Commercial Bank topped in terms of number of transactions.

The rights shares of Sagarmatha Merchant Finance, Premier Finance and Excel Development Bank -- whose number stands at 750,000, 419,098 and 600,000, respectively -- were listed in the NEPSE last week.
